VETERANS ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

Project History

The West Caldwell Public Library Veterans Oral History Project began in 2004 as the World War II Veterans Oral History Project. The initial goal of this endeavor was to record and preserve the oral histories of World War II veterans from all branches of the United States military, living in West Caldwell and the West Essex region.

Current Scope of the Project

As the project has progressed and grown, the scope has been expanded to include veterans serving in all military operations throughout the 20th and 21st century. The Library invites all veterans and any others willing to share their personal accounts of life during the war years to document their experiences on cassette tape.

Once transcribed, the recordings will become a part of the Library's Local History & Genealogy Collection.

Meetings are held at 2:00 pm on the second and fourth Thursday of each month and the second Thursday of the month from June-August. For more information, please contact the Reference Department at 973-226-5441.
